iContact Headers - 2007/06/19 00:02 Received an e-mail from an iContact client today. There was list unsubscribe info in the headers, which ESPs seem slow to adopt even though (unless I'm missing something) it would seem be in their own best interest in terms of protecting reputation. (Unsub button vs. spam button in the e-mail client.)

Also saw list unsubscribe info in an ExactTarget e-mail today, but these iContact ones are more extensive

Here was Exact Target's:
List-Unsubscribe: <mailto:leave-fc811...@leave.exacttarget.com>

Here is iContact's:
List-Unsubscribe: <http://app.icontact.com/icp/listunsubscribe.php?....>
X-List-Unsubscribe: <http://app.icontact.com/icp/listunsubscribe.php?....>
X-Unsubscribe-Web: <http://app.icontact.com/icp/listunsubscribe.php?...>

Anyone know what purpose these would serve? Assuming the first one is a response to the alternative to the spam button in MSN, what purpose would the other two serve?

Didn't notice anything else that stood out. No DomainKeys or DKIM signature yet for iContact.

Re:iContact Headers - 2007/06/22 00:01 Poking around the iContact blog, they have a post about authentication from earlier this month. Looks like they'll be adding DKIM.

"In the near future we will be implementing DKIM technology as well. Our development team is currently working on the logistics of this process and we hope to have it done in the next several months."

Re:iContact Headers - 2007/06/28 21:03 The 'X-List Unsubscribe' and the 'X-Unsubscribe' headers are simply alternatives to the 'List-Unsubscribe' header. 'List-Unsubscribe' is an RFC header and the others are non-RFC and are often used informally.

Perhaps that will clarify somewhat.

In regards to DKIM: Yes we expect to be fully utilizing DKIM in Q3 of this year. The potential for DKIM to be an email standard is very real at this point, and we need to be sure we are fully compliant. This is something that Yahoo already uses heavily and AOL plans to Adopt in the coming months. There are many others that currently use DKIM or plan to in the near future as well.

Re:iContact Headers - 2007/07/10 16:16 I have just finished resolving the issues with the CASA (Chinese Anti-Spam Alliance). They have had this IP listed for quite some time and didn't realize we were a strong anti-spam organization. As of 7/10/07 they have agreed to delist that IP address.

TQMCUBE is an abandoned blacklist that has not updated since early 2007. Please reference the article here on DNSBL.com:

http://www.dnsbl.com/2007/06/status-of-dnsbltqmcubecom-abandoned.html

Lastly, the APEWS list, from what I understand, will list an IP address indiscriminately and without good reason. From Al Iverson's blog:

"APEWS, an “anonymous” list widely thought to be created as a replacement for the defunct SPEWS, has been regularly criticized by respected anti-spam advocates such as Steve Linford of Spamhaus and Suresh Ramasubramanian of ISP Outblaze. Controversy includes listing policies considered to be broad and inaccurate, and contact/removal policies perceived as cruel to listees (by deflecting all contact away from the blacklist and toward public discussion forums where listees are often subject to abuse from unrelated parties)."

We make our IP addresses available to any customer that wishes to check on it because we feel that being honest about the current status of our servers is the best policy.
